General Instructions:
Soil and Location:
Soil: Daikon radishes prefer well-drained, loose soil with a pH of 6.0-7.5. Ensure the soil is not too compacted to allow their long roots to grow properly.
Sunlight: Plant in full sun to partial shade, though they do best with around 6 hours of sunlight per day.
Planting:
Timing: Daikon radishes are typically planted in the late summer or early fall. In cooler climates, they can be planted in spring as well.
Spacing: Space seeds about 2 inches apart in rows, and plant them about ½ inch deep in the soil.
Row Spacing: Leave about 12 to 18 inches between rows.
Thinning: Once seedlings emerge (in about 5-7 days), thin them to 4-6 inches apart to give the radishes enough space to develop properly.
Watering:
Moisture: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Daikon radishes need regular watering, especially in the early stages of growth.
Care:
Weeding: Keep the area weed-free to reduce competition for nutrients.
Fertilizing: Use a balanced fertilizer, but avoid too much nitrogen, as it can result in excessive leafy growth and underdeveloped roots.
Harvest:
Daikon radishes mature in about 50-70 days. Harvest when they reach a usable size, typically around 8-14 inches long. Loosen the soil around the radish before pulling them out to avoid breaking the roots.
